Panamanian Governor and Mayors visit Farm in Huelva, Spain

The Governor of Colon, Pedro Rios and 9 mayors of 4 provinces of the interior of the country visited the Finca Valbono Farm, located in the municipality of Aracena, Province of Huelva, Autonomous Region of Andalucia, Spain, where they learned of the concept of rural tourism, which will serve as an example to apply in their districts as part of the project undertaken by the Foundation “La Castilla del Oro,” which seeks to develop rural tourism in the provinces of the country.

Panamanian authorities are in Spain on the initiative of the “La Castilla del Oro” Foundation created by Engineer Richard Fifer-Carles, in order to learn from the experiences that some regions of Spain have in rural, historical and agro-ecological tourism and how municipalities manage the sustainable development of these types of activities that generate a large amount of foreign currency for the local population.

At the site, visitors were greeted by Javier Gago, rural hotel manager, who explained the philosophy and concept of a rural hotel or residence, which does not require investing millions to implement, where families that live in more urban areas such as Huelva, Sevilla and some parts of Extremadura and other European countries arrive to do tourism.

Valbono is an old two story country house, located on a farm, which has rooms, bar, restaurant, lounge, large dining room and a lounge for meetings, which offers peace, privacy, rest and a pleasant stay for visitors.

Prior to this visit, the mayors and the Governor of Colon visited the “Gruta de las Maravillas” a caustic cavity that houses  twelve rooms connected by galleries, where the dissipating action of water and later work as a goldsmith of formations that seem magical, have created a landscape full of suggestions and underground mysteries.

They also toured the Museo del Jamón de Aracena (Ham Museum), where they appreciated the processes of the preparation of the Iberian pig from its stay in the farms, eating habits until it is finally processed for consumption, in a period of almost four years.
