“Environmental chemistry is in vogue”, said Guerrero, who said that if companies comply with environmental regulations, modern mining should not pollute the environment.
For his part, the president of the Mining Chamber of Panama (CAMIPA), Roberto Cuevas, said that responsible mining operations using modern technologies “have no reasons to pollute rivers, or other bodies of water whether on the surface or underground.”
“Water usage in mining operations takes place in closed systems. So, what are we so worried about? That river in Panama are contaminated by the indiscriminate use of agrochemicals and by the terrible sedimentation in all of these areas? Asked Cuevas.
“When there is a mining company, it is monitored, by the authorities of the Ministry of Trade and Industry and of ANAM (as they are doing today), visiting the Petaquilla Gold project on a weekly basis, in reference to the Panamanian company led by Engineer Richard Fifer – Carles. We have the commitment, and I know that they will comply.
